Garmin Approach G5 GPS-enabled Golf Handheld Review
The Garmin Approach is in my opinion the best GPS based golf rangefinder available. I have been using it for a month and find it accurate and easy to use. If you need an absolute yardage to the pin, this might not be for you. But for those golfers happy with yardages to the middle of the green there is nothing better. (It is possible to move the pin around in the detailed green view, but its a guesstimate as to where the actual pin is on the green. Useful for large greens or courses you know well.) The score card, shot measure, and preview course are all great features that work well enough, but don’t buy it for anything other than easy to read, accurate yardages from anywhere on the course to hazards and to the green. You don’t need line of sight to the pin like you do with the laser range finders. And there are NO additional fees. There is only one problem with this device; it is not rechargeable! This is the only reason I didn’t give it five stars. Alkaline batteries last a round and a half. I purchased two sets of rechargeable batteries, an absolute must. One set will last around two and a half rounds. That this thing doesn’t recharge as easy as a cell phone is a big let down. I guess you can’t have everything.

No downloads. No annual fees. Good battery life. Locates courses nearby. Easy to see screen. Touch screen and no instructions needed! I love it and am selling my (3) previous models to friends. This makes course management so simple when a tap on the screen shows distance of next shot instantly. Playing an unfamiliar course like you know it makes golf more fun.

We used one in our golf league group last night and I hit more greens than I normally do and shot four stokes better for nine than the week before. It was very accurate and especially helpful if you weren’t in the middle of the fairway and if you had a blind shot to the green where you couldn’t point a laser rangefinder. It definitely gives you an advantage. The guy carrying it eagle the last hole.

Bought this product a couple of weeks ago and had a couple of problems that need to be resolved. The touchscreen would not respond properly and after waiting about 20 minutes for tech support they walked me through the problem and fixed it. the other problem is that not all of the latest courses would download onto my Approach. After trying a re download with a tech and not being successful he transferred me to a software guy and he set it up so he could manipulate my computer with the approach connected. He did some magic and the full 82MB file downloaded. I have only used the gps once and am very pleased with its ease of use and visibility in sunlight.

IZZO Swami 1500 Golf GPS Unit Review
The device is easy to use and does an excellent job for the money. It easily finds the course it is on and provides very accurate distance to the greens. One just has to remember to turn it off at the end of the day or the battery runs down. An excellent value for the money.

I ordered the swami, received it on time, easily hooked it up to my computer, loaded my home course and played nine holes that night. It worked just as advertised. Often my ball lands where yardage markers are not readily available. Swami proved to be a great help in club selection in these all to frequent situations. The next day I requested mapping for some local unmapped courses and ordered a Swami for my wife. While the company states an unmapped course will be mapped within 5-10 business days, I was notified by e-mail four days later that the courses that I had requested were mapped. These courses were easily loaded into my Swami. I used it on one of the newly mapped courses the next weekend and Swami really helped my club selection on a less familiar course. When we took my wife’s new Swami to our home course the unit did not recognize the course. I took it home and reloaded it and had the same problem. I gave it one more try. It worked for 11 holes and then yardage displayed by the unit went wacky. She was standing about 130 yards out and the display kept changing by hundreds of yards and never settled down. I called Swami support the next morning, and in less than 24 hours she had a new fully charged Swami in her hands loaded with her course choices. The new unit works as advertised. Great friendly customer service!

I bought the unit and received it in a very timely manner. The unit was easy to program by downloading courses onto it from the website. There is a $10 annual fee for access the website in order add course downloads and software updates (cd and instructions included with the unit). You are not required to renew every year. The unit holds up to 10 courses, which you can change if you desire or you can just have the 10 and never have need to access the website again. There were two courses I wanted that were not listed. I requested and they were mapped with 4-5 days. I was notified they were available and I added them to the unit without any trouble. I used my unit on a course that had GPS in the cart and the Swami unit read within 5 yards of the yardage noted on the cart’s GPS system(for my game,that is close enough).I recommend this unit as an excellent value for the money.

I had skycaddie and it was constantly having problems with the yardages. It was painful to have to pay for a subscription again for a product that worked about 50% of the time. So when I saw the SWAMI I went for it figuring it would cost about the same as a couple of years subscription to skycaddie. I play the same courses most of the time so I doubt I will need to do an update beyond the 10 I download. The device works great. Easy to read and front, center, back of the green is really all I need. I found the install easy once I had read others reviews and realized I needed to follow directions carefully. I think this is a great value.

uPro Golf GPS by Callaway Golf Review
This GPS loads fast from the web site, very intuitive to use, You probably don’t need the “Fly Over” if you know the course, it also takes longer to use in that mode, so it is not as practical either. Overall it is the best I have seen, played golf with two others that had Sky Caddie and Sono Caddie, but the others like uPro screen better then their own.

Had my Upro about 7 weeks and played six rounds. Very pleased. Had a tee shot go long, but into the next fairway. was going to just punch back onto the fairway but looked at the Upro yardage and realized I could shoot for the pin. Made an easy par. Thought to myself “It was worth the money.” The battery life is OK. Gets about two rounds each charge. (battery backup would be nice)Down loading course takes a long time but its not hard. (Go watch TV or something while your waiting) All the courses I’ve looked for in Jersey have been mapped. I don’t use the fly over view much, but it (the pro view) does comes in handy when considering your next shot to or over a large hazard. the upro will give you distances to were you should be shooting. Or you can use the pro view and pick a spot where you want to land your next shot and get your measurement. Works well for those dog legs where your not sure how far to hit to the turn. The yardage measurments are consistence with the markers, within 2 yards or less, usually less.

I have been using Upro for about 3 months. what a great product!! installation was very easy and the online manual quite helpful. i had the skycaddie for a year and i would never go back. the neatest feature is the ability to get a yardage number to any point and then onto the green. makes punching out of the woods very easy. you get the yardage to the middle of the fairway and also to the pin. lets you plan what club to use. maybe i spend too much time in the woods, but this is super helpful. can’t really find anything to complain about. this is one of those rare items that actually performs as advertised.

I’ve used it three times now, both in Basic and Pro mode. They both work great and the distances are given almost instantly. Pro mode is definitely better, but Basic mode is quite adequate too because it gives the distances too and over all hazards. I prefer the “pay for the courses that you want” method too. Especially since you can download all of the Basic mode courses you want for free!

Loved it, loved it, loved it … I got my Neo Monday Night. Downloaded some courses that night and golfed with it Tuesday Night. Absolutely perfect for what I wanted. At $149 and a one time membership fee to download 100 courses (not an annual fee to keep it running) who could want more? Neo told me distances to front/center/back and that’s all I needed. Checked the markings on the course and they were right on. It’s best used when you’re off in the rough, angled away from the fairway distances and need a distance from your “current line” of sight. Distances to the center of the green off any line was dead on. Any green I missed last night was because of my shot, not club selection. I really liked it … and I liked it because I didn’t spend $400+ on color pictures of stuff I don’t need or use and I don’t have to pay an annual fee to keep turning it on year after year!!! If you’re a mid handicapper like me, can execute but just need accurate distances from anywhere (and not from dead center of the fairway), this is the tool. It’s great. Next, I need to learn how to add points on the holes with water and sand and all that junk. I’m excited … can you tell? Loved it!

The iGolf Neo was my first GPS unit for golf. I’ve had the laser range finders, and this Neo makes finding the distance much quicker. Though it does not give distance to the pin, it is very accurate to all areas of the green. I’ve been able to download all courses that I need. The “shot distance” feature makes betting on “long drives” fun because you can measure the exact distance to each ball. Mapping each hole is simple, and you can map 4 different things per hole. And it is literally so small, you’ll forget it is in your pocket. And I do keep it in my pocket, because the only negative thing is that the unit does not stay in the plastic belt clip very securely. Oh, and did I mention that it’s the lowest priced GPS unit out there?? Well worth the money!

I got this as birthday gift for my husband fully expecting he may choose to trade up to one of the more expensive models, but after reading the reviews and doing my research, I felt this was a great choice for the money. He then did more research after receiving his gift and decided to try it out. The result – it’s a winner. He loves the small size and it does everything he wanted it to do. The only thing its missing is the cool graphics some models have, but he said that’s really not important – especially because the small sizing makes it so convenient.

GolfLogix GPS Review
I had one of the early models made by SkyCaddie, and this device is far superior. It’s easier to use, holds 20 downloaded courses (as opposed to 10), finds the course you are at (as opposed to scrolling through a list), is waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), cost far less to get a one year membership to downloadable courses, and turns on in seconds with distances (as opposed to minutes). The 2008 model measures the distance from your last shot so you can tell how far you are hitting each club. It’s very easy to use. Just turn it on. I had no trouble downloading the courses, and I am a Mac user with the Mac Leopard operating system. The Garmin algorithn for finding distances is quick and accurate.

I purchased the GPS-7 in March 2008 from Amazon. I registered the device and paid the $30 annual fee. A few days later, Golflogix announced the GPS-8. I was a little unhappy about that since I hadn’t even had the chance to evaluate it. I emailed Golflogix and told them of my situation. They offered me a credit toward the GPS-8. The GPS-8 had a few additional features that I thought were worth the upgrade. So, I used the credit and upgraded. When I tried to upload my home course to the GPS-8, the software wouldn’t recognize the new device. Each account is linked to a specific device. I asked if my old account could be transferred to the new device. Unfortunately, it couldn’t. I had to cancel my subscription for the GPS-7 and pay another $30 for the GPS-8. The good news is that Golflogix credited me one of annual subscription charges. I have to say that Golflogix has EXCEPTIONAL customer service. Now, on to the review…

I have used the GPS-8 a few times now and can say that I really enjoy using it. It has been extremely helpful on the course with determining distances to hazards and other points on the golf course. I think this is more useful than a laser rangefinder since a laser rangefinder requires you to be able to see your target to measure it and sometimes requires you to have a very steady hand. The GPS-8 will tell you the distance to hazards from anywhere without a direct line of sight and without any effort. All of the features of the GPS-8 that are described on their website work and I have not had any issues except one: battery life. I get about 2-3 rounds/set of AA batteries. Obviously, longer battery life is better. The good thing is that the GPS-8 uses common AA batteries and not a proprietary battery pack. Just keep a spare set of AA batteries in your golf bag and you’re good to go. With consistent use, the GPS-8 could easily help lower one’s handicap and is an indispensible tool for course management.
